CNDC Dance competition

Today I will be blogging about my first ever dance competition! I competed in the dance styles jazz and tap. Our jazz song was called Bom Bom. and our tap was called I Love New York. We defiantly were stronger in jazz then we were in tap, but you cant be great at everything right? Anyway, it was my first competition so I guess I was kind of nervous, but I was also full excitement! We danced at CNDC (Canadian National Dance Championships). This year at CNDC there were a lot of entrees so they had to have two stages, a main stage and a second stage. Usually solos and duets and trios danced on the second stage just because it was smaller, but big groups still sometimes danced on it. We were a trio so we danced on the second stage.

Before we were about to go on stage we warmed up, stretched and went over our dances to make sure we knew them good! There was so much going on like people rehearsing there   ow dances and all the amazing costumes, but I had to stay focused on what was important to me- my own dances!  After we were done rehearsing our dances it was time to get on stage. By then the nerves started to kick in. Then we were next to preform! And I was going over it in my head but then I blanked and I forgot! But as soon as I got on the stage I didn’t full our and remembered all of just like that!

After we were done both dances it was time for awards,  we were competing  in novas and for tap we got silver and for jazz we got high silver. We also each got a trophy as well as a medal which was fun!

I love dancing it it was of my very favorite things to do!

Easter Weekend!

Today I will be blogging about what I’m doing for Easter weekend! So, its actually a interesting story. My grandparents are coming out from B.C for Easter weekend and we wanted to go to Hekla for the weekend they were out. We booked Hekla for two nights and three days and two joining rooms and two queen beds per room. My grandparents were suppose to arrive on the Thursday, stay overnight in the city and we wold pick them up on the Friday. Somehow our wires got crossed and we thought the plans had changed to… they were going to come on the Friday, stay overnight in the city until Saturday. So we thought if the were in the city Friday we would have to cancel one night at Hekla, that was fine but when my dad called to cancel, they wouldn’t let us cancel! They said since it was Easter weekend, you had to stay for a minimum of two nights. Well, obviously we couldn’t do that so my dad just canceled the whole thing. Which was sad because my mom, my dad, and my grandparents all had massages booked as well. We still wanted to stay somewhere, so we booked one night in a hotel in the city. When we called my grandparents to let them know the change the were confused, apparently they weren’t coming on Friday the were coming on Thursday! So we canceld the city hotel and booked Hekla again for two nights. Unfortunately we weren’t able to get the same rooms which we had before, but at least we got in!

I’m so exited about this weekend! But on Monday I have my first dance competition! So I will be practicing a lot at the resort! This weekends going to be a great one!

Lemony Snicket

Today I will be blogging about one of my favorite series of books called Lemony Snicket All the Wrong Questions! There are four books in the series and all of of them are more confusing then the last. I’ve only read the first two books out of four. How to Clean a Flute and Take Care of it

How to Clean a Flute and Take Care of It

In this piece I will be telling you how to clean a flute and take care of it. The three parts of the flute are the head joint (mouth piece), the gbody (middle), and the foot joint (the bottom). First off, you will unscrew the head joint from the body of the flute. Make sure this is done gently and carefully. Do Not touch the keys and keypads while removing the pieces! These can get damaged easily!

To properly take care of you flute, it’s a good idea to clean it after every use. If you leave your flute uncleaned it may begin to smell and affect your performance. To begin cleaning you flute, attach a soft cleaning cloth to a cleaning rod (a cleaning rod is a stick like shape with a whole at the top), Thread the cloth through the hole at the top of the rod and wrap the cloth around the rod.

Put the rod inside each piece of your flute. start off cleaning the foot joint because the foot joint will usually have the least amount of saliva and moisture, so it’s better to start cleaning there. Then proceed to clean the body and then the head joint

To clean the outside of your flute you can get either a silver brushed or any other soft, thin cloth you have. Again, Do Not touch the keys and keypads while cleaning, they can easily get damaged or bent.

I hope this piece educated you on how to clean the flute and take care of it. Again, cleaning your flute after every use is vital. Another way to keep your flute squeaky clean is not eating before playing your instrument. Now that you’ve read this, I hope you know how to clean and take care of your flute.

Ukulele

Today I will be blogging about how I started playing the ukulele. About two months ago I couldn’t figure out what to do for O.W.L (Open world learning). Then an idea popped into my head. I could try to play the ukulele. So I bought one and it came in just in time to start O.W.L. When I brought my ukulele home I started practicing right away.

When I first started playing the ukulele I didn’t know anything about it. I didn’t know it had to be tuned or there were such thing as chords, I didn’t even know what strumming meant. I decided my first goal was going to be to learn some simple chords. I started finding it so hard to play it. That’s when I realized I was holding the ukulele wrong that whole time. I am right handed so I should’ve been holding it the right handed way, instead I was holding it the left handed way, that’s why I was finding it so hard to play my ukulele. So I fixed that mistake and kept on going. Once I had learned a few simple chords, I went on to learn a simple song using those simple chords I had learned. I started learning Twinkle, Twinkle little star. That was pretty easy so I went on to learn a harder song which was, I’ll see you in my dreams. That song had a lot of strumming patterns in it and harder chords so it was defiantly more challenging for me. In the end I had learned the intro to, I’ll see you in my dreams. I found a new passion for the ukulele and I love playing it. Its so calming and it clears my head. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this blog post!
